Extracurricular Activities
Beyond the classroom, Creston Elementary School offers a variety of activities to help students explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships.
House System
Every student, teacher, and staff member now belongs to one of four Houses. Houses are like teams — where everyone belongs and everyone participates. Through the House System, we aim to build relationships, increase community awareness, and strengthen each student's sense of self-worth.
Assessments
Students will be formally assessed at different points in the school year. The following assessments are completed each year.
District Benchmarking
The district uses a variety of assessments for benchmarking and as progress-monitoring tools for students in Tier 2 or 3 reading supports. Benchmarking occurs at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
MAP
Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) is a computer-based assessment taken three times per year (Fall, Winter, Spring) measuring growth in Reading, Language Usage, and Math.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
The IAR is the state assessment for students in grades 3–8, administered once a year between March and April.
Illinois Science Assessment (ISA)
The ISA is the state science assessment for students in grades 5 and 8, administered once a year between March and April.
ACT 8–9
The district, in collaboration with Rochelle Township High School, administers the ACT to all 8th grade students in the fall to assist with high school placement decisions.
WiDA ACCESS
The ACCESS assessment is given once a year to all students identified as English Language Learners, between January and March.
FitnessGram
The FitnessGram is given to all students in grades 3–8 in the second semester, testing aerobic capacity, flexibility, muscular endurance, and muscular strength.
Assessment Survey Results Tracker (ISBE)
The ISBE Assessment Survey Results Tracker provides families access to state assessment results and school performance data.
Learn Moree-Learning Days
e-Learning Days provide access to learning on days when school is cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergencies. While these days cannot replace face-to-face time, they provide continuous learning and eliminate the need for makeup days at the end of the year. Student assignments and the attendance sign-in form are located in the e-Learning Day Assignment Hub.
e-Learning Day Assignment HubFree Appropriate Public Education
The District shall provide a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment and necessary related services to all children with disabilities enrolled in the District, as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and implementing provisions of the School Code, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
